LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 200th Infantry, completed a second iteration of the Javelin Gunner Training Course at the Las Cruces Readiness Center here May 8.
Eleven infantrymen completed the three-day course.
The Javelin Gunner Training course provides Soldiers with the technical knowledge and skills required to qualify as a Javelin Gunner. This means knowing how to engage and destroy armored vehicles and maintain the Javelin.
Training objectives included learning the operational capabilities of the Javelin, which is a shoulder-launched, fire and forget, man portable medium range antitank weapon system with two major components—Command Launch Unit (CLU) and Round; defeat current and projected enemy armor and hovering helicopters; use the Integrated day/night sight; perform Preventive Maintenance checks and services on the Javelin; demonstrate the Javelin carry techniques; describe infrared principles; and engage a target with a Javelin.
Mr. David King, Mr. Carl Roberts, and Mr. Scott Haymaker instructed the course. The three instructors did an outstanding job. They taught our Soldiers the fundamentals of being a Javelin Gunner, which is a key capability in a light Infantry organization.
