KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, NM–The 150th Special Operations Wing of the New Mexico Air National Guard hosted its annual Family Day Nov. 04, 2018.
Local organizations from around Albuquerque came to support the 150th SOW’s Family Day event. This year’s Family Day offered a car show, wellness fair, dance performances, a mixed martial arts presentation, food trucks, and a simulated deployment line for family members to experience.
This event kicked off at 11:00 a.m. welcoming service members and their families with an opening ceremony.
“Today is a day about service, family and community,” said Col. Esther Sablan, Commander of the 150th SOW. “It’s for us in the service to connect with our families and community; and for you, family members and community members, to connect with us in the service.”
Family Day allows the Air National Guard a chance to interact with the public, recognize the support families have provided service members, and connect individuals from the wing.
“It’s an opportunity for us to embody a culture, demonstrate what we stand for, and show our diverse nature in the unit,” said Master Sgt. Cassandra Baca, Family Day Project lead and First Sergeant of the 150th Mission Support Group. “It allows networking and gives the chance for growth and collaboration.”
The assistance from numerous individuals throughout the wing was essential in coordinating this event.
“As project lead for such a massive event, I couldn’t have done it without the support and contributions of our wing leadership, the Family Day committee, and volunteers from across the wing,” said Baca. “Their kindness, their teamwork, their mindset–the collaboration has been truly phenomenal.”
