one,’” said Col. Troy Chadwell, the commander of the 93rd Troop Command who presided over the ceremony.
Chadwell spoke about Giles’ capacity for soldiering and for leadership. He told stories about his personal experiences learning Crossfit with Giles and watching him grow as a noncommissioned officer.
“1st Sgt. Giles was meant for the uniform,” Chadwell said. “He should be on recruiting posters nation-wide. He wears the uniform with pride and maintains the bearing of a true soldier.”
In closing, Chadwell extended heartfelt appreciation for Giles’ character and service to Soldiers in the NMNG.
“He loves to push people to do his best. I’ve seen it during training when students were struggling to get through physically. He set up plans for them to coach and mentor them through,” said Chadwell. “I would speak blessings to you and to your family and to your future career. I wish the best for you.”
Giles credits his success to the support of his family, his friends, and to his faith.
“As I reflect on the past 25 years, several things come to mind,” Giles said. “Every person in life that has encouraged or challenged me was not put in my path by chance. Every gift and attribute was given to me by God. I want to thank him first for all of these things.”
“I want to thank my family, my friends, and my mentors second,” Giles said. “I would have never accomplished anything if it weren’t for each and every one of you.”
Giles spoke about his philosophy of service and left the audience with a few words of advice.
“I only hope that I left the service in a better state than when I came in because I know that the NMNG has made that difference in me,” Giles said. “I leave you with some words to ponder on. Never forget that it isn’t about you, it’s about others. Take care of the people that you are entrusted with and never compromise your character no matter what the reward.”
