The generous donation defines the true meaning of “giving back” to your community. Angela, who graduated from New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe Academy in 2011, earned her nurse’s aide certificate and currently works helping adults with intellectual and developmental learning disabilities at ARCA, where she has worked for the past four years. Maryalice said her daughter Angela is doing well in her chosen profession and she credits the New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe Academy for Angela’s success. “It is difficult for our youth to find a program when they need help,” said Hawkes. “The New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe Academy does great things to help our youth, motivating them, and helping steer them in the right direction for a good path to their future.” Hawkes said she hopes that the donation helps the Youth ChalleNGe Academy to provide scholarships for future cadets, helps buy supplies for cadets in need, and anything else they see fit to help the program succeed. “When our family was looking for an organization to make a donation to, Angela stepped up and said she wanted to give a donation to the place that gave her her start,” Maryalice said. “If it wasn’t for this program, she probably wouldn’t be as successful as she is today. She tells everyone about the Youth ChalleNGe program, and if she could mentor, she would do it.” Maryalice said she is very pleased with the what the New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe program did for Angela and they are very proud to give the donation. “We wish the program the very best and we are glad we could help,” Maryalice said. Tina Sisneros, the New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe director, said she is very grateful for the extremely generous donation. “Our cadets will benefit greatly from it,” Sisneros said. “We are going to open up an Angela Hawkes scholarship fund as well as help our cadets in many other ways. This is such as blessing for our cadets and our program.” Sisnersos said that the Hawkes family generosity reflects the program’s success on how they are doing things right for our youth. “It is rewarding to get success stories like this and to know that our cadets are graduating with their vo-tech certificates and doing well in their chosen fields,” Sisneros said.]]>
