Jenna Herbert, 920th Engineer Company Pvt. Matthew Hernandez, Company D, 1st Battalion, 200th Infantry Pvt. Gordon Hicks, 920th Engineer Company Pfc. Marc Morgan, 919th Military Police Company Pfc. Dion Poyer, Company A, 1st Battalion, 200th Infantry Recruiting and Retention Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Brian White and Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Vigil presented plaques and the battalion challenge coin to Falcon, Fredette, and Hernandez for their achievements during Initial Military Training. Falcon achieved the highest Army Physical Fitness Test score in his cycle. Fredette scored the highest in his cycle for Basic Rifle Marksmanship. Hernandez was his cycle’s Honor Graduate as well as earning the highest scores in the APFT and BRM. Maj. Gen. Kenneth Nava, the Adjutant General of New Mexico, presented his challenge coin to Falcon, Fredette, and Hernandez. Acosta, Campos, Herbert, and Poyer received promotions to their current ranks during the ceremony. Fredette and Gordon were promoted to the rank of PV2. As unit representatives patched in each new Soldier, Nava and state Command Sgt. Maj. Jerry Garcia joined them in welcoming each graduate to the ranks. “It’s time for you people to come into our formations and replace us. I need you to go to your units and excel,” Nava told the new Soldiers. “Thanks for doing what you’re doing.” Maj. Rudylee Armijo, RSP officer-in-charge, told the present families that their Soldiers had earned their places on the stage by meeting standards. “If they continue to meet standards, doors will continue to be opened to them,” Armijo said. Armijo then turned to the unit representatives. “You’re getting pristine Soldiers—fresh out of the box with kung fu grip. Take care of them,” he said. The Recruiting and Retention Battalion administers the Recruit Sustainment Program, which prepares recruits to successfully complete Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training.
